Logging out of Strum Machine

First, if you’re on your own device, we highly recommend that you do not log out of Strum Machine. There is no reason to do so from either a security or privacy standpoint, and it will make your life easier as you won’t have to log in every time you use Strum Machine.

That said, if you’re on a shared device or want to log out for some other reason, here’s how to do it:

  1. Click on Settings in the top-left corner of the home screen.
  2. Click on “Account & Subscription”.
  3. Click the “Log Out” button toward the bottom of the page.

”Why is Strum Machine logging me out automatically?”

That shouldn’t be the case. Strum Machine does its best to remember you after logging in, so you should not have to log in again unless you log out. If it’s making you log in every time you go to the site, your browser is probably set to block or automatically clear cookies. You can fix this by enabling cookies in your browser settings. Here is a website with instructions for how to change cookie settings in each browser.

Some background on “cookies”: these are little snippets of text that websites store on your computer. Many websites (including Strum Machine) store a random identifier in a cookie, which can later be used to recognize your computer when you come back to the website. There’s really no privacy concern with this kind of cookie.

The issue is with third-party “cross-site tracking cookies”, which are used to track you across different websites to build a profile of your browsing behavior. Strum Machine does not use any such cookies, so you are welcome (and encouraged) to block third-party cookies in your browser, as long as first-party cookies remain enabled.
