Using the beta version

The “beta” version incorporates the latest functionality and improvements being made to Strum Machine. You are welcome and encouraged to use the beta version every time you use Strum Machine. Using the beta not only lets you benefit from any new features, but helps to catch any bugs that may have sneaked in as part of the update. It’s a win-win!

How to access the beta version

You can access the beta in any web browser by going to:

beta.strummachine.com

(There’s no desktop app for the beta version, but using it in the browser should work nearly the same.)

On iPhones and iPads, we recommend accessing the beta version through the “SM Beta” app, which you can install via Apple’s TestFlight program here. You will be prompted to install the TestFlight app, and then you’ll be able to install the SM Beta app.

If, after you install TestFlight for the first time, it asks you for an “invitation code”, come back here and click the link above again and it should work.

On Android devices, you can use the beta by opting in to become a “tester” here or (potentially) on the app listing in the Play Store.

Q&A

Will all my songs and lists be available in the beta version?

Yes, the same database is used in both the beta and regular versions, so all of your songs and lists will show up in both places.

Is it easy to go back to the non-beta version?

Yes, just load the regular Strum Machine app or go to strummachine.com as usual. And since the same database is shared between the two versions, you can go back and forth without losing anything.

How can I tell if I’m on the beta version?

Look at the top of the “home” screen, above the song search bar. If you see the word “beta” there, you’re using the beta version.
